What I learned: How to build a website, how words can be communicated, used eg.

What I improved on: Using After Effects to create my introduction video.

What was difficult: How to layout the page to make it look interesting + Looking for what to actually research about regarding my word.

What I enjoyed: Laying out this wixpage from start to finish. Making my website look aesthetically pleasing eg.

Storytelling Project (UNIT 7)

We’ve been asked to create a time story telling project based on a specific word that our teacher gave to us.  We were also asked to experiment and investigate into different techniques to communicate our different visual styles and interests. to try to make our video dynamic and emotive.

My given word is literally “word”. Although it didn’t make sense to me at first, eventually I found a way around it.

On both sides, I typed out the context I will be exploring.

Hope you enjoy.

The eldest human languages (most was lost) were first originated in Africa. There are over 6,500 different languages in the world today, although some of these are nearly extinct. Human language probably started to develop around 100,000 years ago.

Eldest language that still exist today: Adrinka, Bantu (1000 BC to 500 BC), Ge’ez script, Egyptian (5000 years), Old Nubian (800AD-1500AD), and many more!

There are many types of languages that don't require speaking such as: Sign language, whistling tone(eg. sfyria), braille, tadoma, lip reading, morse codes, slangs and many more.

Slang is very informal language or specific words used by a particular group of people. You'll usually hear slang spoken more often than you'll see it put in writing, though emails and texts often contain many conversational slang words. EG. Clap Back; Salty; Mood; Shade; Mood etc.

Positive words, such as “peace” and “love,” can alter the expression of genes, strengthening areas in our frontal lobes and promoting the brain's cognitive functioning. However, a single negative word can increase the activity in our amygdala (the fear centre of the brain). Our words have the ability to change lives.

A person's particular style of writing.

Handwriting (/ˈhandrʌɪtɪŋ/)

Every single person has different types of handwriting; some may look very similar, some are uncommon. Your writing style can determine what kind of person you are (according to research). For example: small handwriting tells you that you prefer to be alone, you are reserved n shy. Joint handwriting means you tend to make decisions carefully.

My favourite handwriting type is calligraphy. It speaks to me as an artist, and I want to improve my handwriting to make it as artistic and fancy. They are also clean with bright colours.A. Is an example of my favourite calligraphy art. B. was my process(timelaps) video attempt to write in calligraphy. C.  is my final result from B.

Many of the new words added to the ever-growing lexicon of the English language are just created from scratch, and often have little or no etymological pedigree.

Loanwords, or borrowings, are words which are adopted into a native language from a different source language.

The ability to add affixes, whether prefixes  and suffixes  makes English extremely flexible. This process, referred to as agglutination, is a simple way to completely alter or subtly revise the meanings of existing words, to create other parts of speech out of words or to create completely new words from new roots.

A surprising number of words have been created by the transfer of the proper names of people, places and things into words which then become part of the generalised vocabulary of the language, also known as eponyms.

Words may be formed by the deliberate imitation of sounds they describe (onomatopoeia).

Some words are “back-formed”, where a new word is formed by removing an actual, or often just a supposed or incorrectly identified, affix.

Like many languages, English allows the formation of compound words by fusing together shorter words.

The drift of word meanings over time often arises, often but not always due to catachresis.

According to the “Oxford English Dictionary”, there are at least 350 words in English dictionaries that owe their existence purely to typographical errors or other misrendering.

Some words are “back-formed”, where a new word is formed by removing an actual, or often just a supposed or incorrectly identified, affix.

semiotics

Learn to pronounce

noun

  1. the study of signs and symbols and their use or interpretation.

Semiotics is an investigation into how meaning is created and how meaning is communicated. Its origins lie in the academic study of how signs and symbols create meaning. Viewing and interpreting this sign enables us to navigate the landscape of our streets and society.

Semiotics started out as an academic investigation of the meaning of words, it moved into examining people’s behaviour, then evolved to become an enquiry into culture and society, following that it moved onto assisting with analyses of cultural products, and finally and more recently became a methodology for researching and analysing consumer behaviour and brand communications.

And signs don’t only need to be visual – they can be aural or sonic signs too, such as the sound of a police siren, usually heard before the vehicle is seen.

Bianca is the author of two amazing poetry books Seeds Planted In Concrete and The Strength in Our Scars.

Her favourite published book is A Literate Passion: Letters Of Anais Nin And Henry Miller and an old psychology textbook of mine called Alterations Of Consciousness: An Empirical Analysis For Social Scientists. The letters inspire softness into her heart, they flay her open because they’re just so "raw and beautiful." The psychology book inspires her mind. It gets into different personality disorders, drug interactions in the brain, insomnia and sleep disorders, etc. She finds it fascinating, and she likes to paw through it whenever she needs a break from the soul stuff.

Her advice: "My biggest growth as a writer has been in realizing that people don’t want to be told how to live. They just want to know someone understands.

Her favourite word is sisu, which means stripped down, it represents mental toughness.

Islamic (Arabic) calligraphy

Islamic calligraphy is the artistic practice of handwriting and calligraphy, based upon the alphabet in the lands sharing a common Islamic cultural heritage. It includes Arabic Calligraphy, Ottoman, and Persian calligraphy. It is known in Arabic as khatt Islami, meaning Islamic line, design, or construction.

Diwani is a cursive style of Arabic calligraphy developed during the reign of the early Ottoman Turks in the 16th and early 17th centuries. It was invented by Housam Roumi, and reached its height of popularity under Süleyman I the Magnificent (1520–1566).

Typographer. A typographer is a person who designs the form and arrangement of type to make the written word more legible and aesthetically pleasing. Such a person might design a font, or define the point size, kerning, and other characteristics of a typeface.

In typography, emphasis is the strengthening of words in a text with a font in a different style from the rest of the text, to highlight them. It is the equivalent of prosodic stress in speech.

I interviewed 5 people  with 5 different words each. I  asked them what 2 words come in mind when they think of the said word; I then asked them to tell me what the word means in them in a short like quote sentence.

The reason why I  did experiment was to prove how words have types of connotation (whether its good or bad/Strong or weak etc).

The first things that pop into our head,  reflects on our mood, whether we share similar connotations or different ones.

I have interviewed at least more than 5 people regarding about words and language. I've set up a simple 4 question questionnaire. This questionnaire had its purpose of showing how each persons opinion differences from one another, and you can tell what type of person they are based on these results.

Q&A

1) What language were you brought up with? How were you taught to speak like?

2) What words do you dislike/like/use till this day?

3) Language do you like? Dislike? Why?

4) What words can’t you pronounce?

My results:

1) English (Tiny bit of Luganda but can barely speak a sentence)

2)My likes on words varies; My dislikes on words are anything 'pop trendy' (eg. 'sksksks' or 'tea sis')

3) Luganda. It's tongue twisters are surprising; French. How they pronounce things a bit roughly with passion.

4) Pizza; Google;

Anonymous answer results:

There has been some conspiracy theories that the people in higher power/cults have been using subliminal messages and affirmation to mind control/brainwash us throughout the years (without us even realising it). I believe this to be true, You can easily unmask the subliminal messages (hidden in plain sight) if you try and unmask it yourself. Sometimes the evidences won't be easy to see; Sometimes it's easy. Subliminal isn't the only way we can be mind controlled. There are others such as vibrations, the things we eat, etc.

However, today's society more people have been making their own subliminal/vibrations themselves (people not in power). There is a culture community on youtube called the subliminal community. There people make their own subliminal, desiring their wishes to be whatever they want or need. For example, changing your eye colour, making yourself taller, longer hair etc. However there are rules to these subliminal you must follow if you want it to work. Rules are in the description box in the youtube videos.

Frequencies, Subliminals, Affirmations etc. Have always been used ever since the first humans have discovered it. However it was soon casted as witchcraft/black magic due to humans being naturally afraid of the unknown. It is believed to be true that words are simple cast spells (affirmation). it's how you choose to use it. You can speak into existence with positivity/negativity. It can also change your aura and it's believed to be said only people with higher frequencies/powers/energy can read people's auras at just one glance.

Sound waves with frequencies below the lower limit of human audibility is referred to as infrasound. The study of such sound waves (infrasonic); It covers beneath 20 Hz - 0.1 Hz. and rarely to 0.001 Hz. People use this frequency range for monitoring earthquakes and volcanoes, charting rock and petroleum formations below the earth, and also in ballistocardiographs and seismocardiography to study the mechanics of the heart.

Some animals have been thought to perceive the infrasonic waves going through the earth, caused by natural disasters, and to use these as an early warning. An example of this is the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami; Animals were reported to have fled the area hours before the actual tsunami hit the shores of Asia.

Animals such as pigeons use low-frequency infrasound to navigate. Whales communicate by using high-frequency clicks and whistles. Single click sounds are used mainly for echolocation while multiple clicks are used to communicate with other whales and even dolphins in the area (Humans and other animals Eg. bats are cable of communicating through clicks).

Pushing a person in a swing is a common example of resonance. Scientists have found a way to manipulate objects/liquids etc. to a pattern of their own as experiments. However it can also be used dangerously; It may cause violent swaying motions and even catastrophic failure in improperly constructed structures including bridges, buildings and airplanes. This is a phenomenon known as resonance disaster.

Introduction

Finale Project

Final Video (Videostar)

Music: Mind me - Oordaya

Music: Blue lights - Jorja Smith (instrumental)

For my final part, I have decided to do 2 videos; Intro & Video.

The intro (made on AE) was supposed to be based on the idea of Subliminal and Affirmation, and on how words can be spells. An intimidation of the subliminal (I explained previously) from the youtube community. Except I didn't really focus on a specific subject word, instead I decided to experiment with different background words, changing n flashing each seconds to give you an idea of how flashy subliminal can be if presented right in front of you. How fast it can go without you even realising, connecting to your subconscious. Hence my chosen sentence for the intro: Affirmations - WORDS are spells. 'Affirmation' having a silver filling, 'Spells' being wibbly & changing colours,'Words! Are!' Enlarging /Reducing size and flashing.

And for the video, it can be the same as the intro, except with a few changes. First its longer, second the footages I used is not only from the internet, but the footage I captured myself in real life. Whether its a video of me recording street art, or random street art photos from across the street, I've managed to edit it (VideoStar) to make it look a certain theme (Retro/90's because it's one of my favourite aesthetic) and give more colours and affect.

Intro(15 sec) + Final Video(3 mins) can be viewed on the left and right.
